Las Isletas is a group of more than 300 islands many
inhabited by humans and all inhabited by our fine-feathered
friends just off the shores of Granada. These
islands were formed ten thousand years ago by the explosion
of Volcán Mombacho. A wonderful way to spend
the day is to tour one or more of the islands, catching
glimpses of traditional fishing village life, and birds
aplenty, along the way.

Sit
back and relax as the boat captain pulls away from the
shoreline and motors toward the islands. Dont
forget your sunscreen, though. The cool breeze off the
lake can make you forget all about the sun beating down
on you from overhead. You can tour Las Isletas by boat
(and binoculars) or get a closer look by asking to get
out and walk around. Its up to you. It is possible
to arrange a trip to the islands ahead of time with
a local tour guide or, if youre more of the spontaneous
type, just head over to Port Asese and go from there.
Let the boat captain know if you would like to have
lunch on an island, as some of them have little restaurants
where you can get a refreshing drink and grab a bite
to eat.
